The committee reviewed the status of the Comprehensive Plan community survey, which concluded with over 1,000 responses. Discussions were held regarding the next phase of stakeholder outreach, identifying a diverse list of potential participants from local businesses to service agencies. The committee evaluated a Climate Smart Communities grant of approximately $90,000, weighing the potential financial benefits against administrative and compliance obligations. Additionally, the committee explored land-use and zoning issues, specifically regarding nonconforming commercial uses and recurring variance requests, and emphasized the importance of gathering feedback on business retention and traffic safety.
The Board conducted a review of an advisory opinion request for a Use Variance concerning an auto repair shop at 1986 State Route 12. Deliberations focused on evaluating four specific criteria: financial return on investment, unique hardship of the property, preservation of neighborhood character, and the nature of the hardship. The Board also reviewed engineering requirements, including dumpster placement and site spill plans, and ultimately issued a favorable recommendation for the variance to the Zoning Board.
The Town Board discussed various municipal matters, including updates on the wastewater treatment plant and the usage of the TextMyGov software platform. The Board reviewed the status of the Hometown Heroes Banner Program and examined proposed security improvements for the Town Hall, specifically regarding a new vestibule entrance. Significant attention was given to addressing numerous grievances concerning Equivalent Dwelling Unit (EDU) assessments for various properties. Additionally, the Board reviewed department reports from the DPW, Ordinance, Dog Control, and Attorney offices, and approved budget modifications, abstract payments, and the 2024 and 2025 Justice Court Audit Reports.
